Matter

Restrictions to travel between countries and cities were one of the first consequences of the Covid pandemic. As a student abroad, who is used to move between cities relatively frequently, not being able and allowed to experience first my hometown and later London was an impactful experience.

This work is still in progress.

As I later applied to people in Bound, this piece shows the true value of a town though the memories linked to it. Each city is represented by their signature material: the local red brick for Bologna, which gives the town one of its nicknames, "the Red One", and concrete for London, that makes up the structures of one if its architectural symbols, the Barbican. A mass of foam bursts out of these cubes, representing the imaginative matter that bestows intrinsic importance to these places: memories.

This project is a collaboration with artist and friend Gregorio Migliaccio.
